The Vasomotor System in Anoxia and Asphyxia

چکیده
Some of these are obviously of value only in very special situations, whereas others, although less accurate, are more practical for large-scale survey work. Various clinical tests of interest are described briefly. The final chapter sets forth "some examples of various types of enquiries in a number of countries." The bibliography lists 119 references. An extremely important part of the book is the appendix in which are presented 17 record forms or books found useful for dietary survey work in six countries; also, valuable height-weight reference tables are given. We may conclude this review with the statement that this monograph should be a valuable addition to the library of every worker in this field of nutritional research. GEORGE R. COWGILL.

Clinical evaluation of vasomotor system functionality in type 2 diabetic Patients
Background: Autonomic neuropathy and vital organ dysfunctions are the known complications in type 2 diabetes Mellitus (DM). Genetic endowments involving individuals make subtle differences in physiological systems, particularly at the time of sickness. Hence, the presented study was designed to evaluate the vasomotor system in healthy people and type 2 DM cases for determining any functionality...
متن کاملForensic Types of Ischemia and Asphyxia
References 313 In Chap. 13 we described the sequelae of disturbances of the pure primary insults of hypoxia, ischemia, and hypoglycemia. Under common pathologic conditions, a combination of different types of metabolic disturbances regularly occurs. The clinical and morphological features, therefore, may partly overlap. This overlapping of processes is especially important in surviving victims,...
متن کاملStress-induced behaviour in adult and old rats: effects of neonatal asphyxia, body temperature and chelation of iron.
Perinatal asphyxia in mammals leads to iron accumulation in the brain, which results in delayed neurobehavioural disturbances, including impaired learning and abnormal alertness over their entire life span. The aim of this investigation was to verify our hypothesis that newborn rats, showing reduced normal body temperature, are protected against neurotoxicity of the asphyxia up to senescence. A...
متن کاملEffect of carbon dioxide on intestinal motility.
W HEN an animal is killed by a blow on the head and its abdomen opened immediately, the intestinal tract is frequently seen in a state of violent activity. This is presumably due to the acute asphyxia which develops upon sudden cessation of the circulation. It has been previously shown in mice (I) and in rats (2) that anoxic anoxia alone (i.e., without accumulation of carbon dioxide, as in asph...
متن کاملVasomotor responses in the hindlimb of newborn calves.
The reflex control of the hindlimb circulation was examined in 9 newborn calves under chloralose anesthesia by measuring iliac arterial pressure-flow curves. Asphyxia always caused vasoconstriction which was abolished or greatly reduced by sciatic nerve section. Vasomotor tone was present a few hours from birth, as shown by an increase in flow on sciatic nerve section and by drug action. It is ...
